The gas hob (1) has a gas cook zone (3) with a gas burner (5) and a jar support element (6). The gas burner and the jar support element are arranged in a lowered cooking top (7). A lowered cooking top covering (8) is provided in the cooking top. The lowered cooking top covering has recesses for operating the gas burner and the jar support element. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a gas hob.

Gaskochfeld, aufweisend mindestens eine Gaskochzone mit jeweils einem Gasbrenner und einem Topfauflageelement, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Gasbrenner und das Topfauflageelement in einer abgesenkten Kochmulde angeordnet sind und dass eine in der Kochmulde absenkbare Kochmuldenabdeckung vorhanden ist, welche Ausnehmungen zur Durchführung des Gasbrenners und des Topfauflageelement aufweist.
