The method involves determining a temperature gradient (dT/ dt) of the cooling medium directly after braking a retarder and during heating the cooling system of retarder before switching of a back regulation of the retarder. The cooling efficiency of the cooling system is determined depending on measurement of the temperature gradient.

1. Verfahren zur Bestimmung einer Leistungsfähigkeit eines Kühlsystems eines Kraftfahrzeugs mit einem Retarder als Funktion einer Temperatur (T) eines Kühlmittels, wobei ein Temperaturgradient (dT/dt) des Kühlmittels ermittelt wird unmittelbar nach einer Bremsung des Retarders und/oder während das Kühlsystem vom Retarder aufgeheizt wird aber vor einer Einschaltung einer Rückregelung des Retarders, wobei die Leistungsfähigkeit des Kühlsystems abhängig von Größe des Temperaturgradienten dT/dt bestimmt wird.
