[origin: WO2008011648A1] The invention relates to an automatic stop mechanism (1) which can be placed above a control and regulation device of a bending press, particularly a folding press, and is used for positioning a workpiece (6) that is to be shaped by forming the same under bending conditions between bending tools (4, 5) located across from one another in a bench beam (2) and a bending beam (3), said bending beam (3) being movable relative to the bench beam (2). The stop mechanism (1) comprises a stop supporting carriage (13) and a stop support (14) which protrudes from the stop supporting carriage (13) in an essentially vertical direction relative to a bending plane (8) that is formed by the bending tools (4, 5). The stop mechanism (1) further comprises a stop element (15) which embodies a finger area and can be displaced relative to the stop support (14) between a neutral position facing the bending plane (8) and a stop position located at a distance from the neutral position, against the effect of a spring assembly (21), within a guiding arrangement (16) that extends perpendicular to the bending plane (8). A retaining device (31) which can be regulated and can be connected, is provided in order to put up added adjusting resistance against a stopping movement of the stop element (15) if necessary.
