Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2008009571A2] The invention relates to a lighting system comprising a discharge lamp (5) that is provided with an Hg source (52) from which mercury evaporates when the discharge lamp (5) is operated, and an electronic ballast (4) for operating the discharge lamp (5). The inventive lighting system is characterized by means (7, 8) for detecting temperature values, with the aid of which the actual temperature of the Hg source (51) can be determined. The actual temperature is compared to at least one reference temperature, and the temperature of the Hg source (51) can be adjusted in accordance with said comparison. The invention also relates a method for operating a discharge lamp by means of an electronic ballast.
