Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2008010172A2] A process for activating D-glucosamine polymers chosen from among chitins, chitosans and crosslinked chitosans and the activated D-glucosamine polymers obtained from the said process. The activation process comprises the following stages: a) treating the polymers with an 0.5 to 3 N solution of a strong base, and b) heating the suspension to a temperature of between 80 and 11O0C and maintaining said temperature for between 2 and 10 minutes. A diet supplement including a nutritional preparation including the said activated polymers. The said diet supplements and nutritional preparations are to be used for the treatment of obesity, hyperlipidaemia, hyperglycaemia and diabetes.
