[origin: WO2008012254A2] The present invention relates to a method for machining journals, with a first step for the rough machining and with a second step for the fine machining, wherein the journal is roughed with a crankshaft milling cutter in the first step and the journal is smoothed with a crankshaft milling cutter in a second step. In order to provide a method and a milling cutter, together with an indexable insert for this milling cutter, which make it possible to machine crankshaft journals more quickly, inexpensively and with at least the same quality as in the prior art, it is proposed according to the invention that the method for the fine machining exclusively comprises the second step, which concludes the dimension-changing machining of the journals.
