Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2008029054A2] The invention relates to a process for producing a glass by melting glass-forming materials, called batch, comprising silica and an alkali or alkaline-earth metal sulphate, at above 1300°C, characterized in that a sulphide is added to the batch so as to reduce the height of foam on the surface of the liquid glass bath at above 1300°C. The invention reduces surface foam formation on the glass and improves the heat exchange between the overhead burners and the glass bath. The invention is particularly suitable for glass intended to be fiberized.
