Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2008032001A1] Method and device for adapting a scalable data stream, corresponding computer program product and network equipment. The invention relates to a method of adapting a scalable data stream organized into blocks of data units, each block comprising at least one base data unit and at least one enhancement data unit, making it possible to define a plurality of levels of quality and throughput (N1 to N3) according to the number and type of data units used, each data unit being initially ranked into an initial level selected from among said plurality of levels. According to the invention, the method implements a regulating mechanism (8) such that, if a data unit is re-ranked into a re-ranking level of lower priority than the initial level of said data unit, all the data units which depend on the decoding of said re-ranked data unit are also re-ranked into re-ranking levels where all the data units indispensable for their decoding are accessible.
