Process for setting a brake clearance (12) of a device for slowing down the running time of preferably spaced out flat products (2), especially joined printing products, where the brake clearance is restricted by cams (10) on camshaft (9) and a counter roll (11). Starting from a minimum value the brake clearance is maintained until the running time of the flat product between a pregap sensor (16) and a post gap sensor is altered downwards (sic) compared with the running time at the minimum clearance setting and the gap clearance is again decreased by a predetermined amount. An independent claim is included for a device for setting a brake clearance.

Bei einer Vorrichtung zur Verlangsamung von auf einer Transporteinrichtung (1) aufgenommenen Flachprodukten (2) die einen Bremsspalt (12) durchlaufen, der durch auf einer Nockenwelle (9) aufgenommene Nocken (10) und eine diesen zugeordnete Gegenwalze (11) begrenzt wird, lässt sich dadurch eine optimale Einstellung des Bremsspalts (12) erreichen, dass der Bremsspalt (12) ausgehend von einem Minimalwert so lange geöffnet wird, bis sich die Laufzeit der Flachprodukte (2) zwischen einem dem Bremsspalt (12) vorgeordneten Sensor (16) und einem dem Bremsspalt (12) nachgeordneten Sensor (17) gegenüber der bei der minimalen Spalteinstellung vorhandenen Laufzeit nach unten verändert und dass anschließend der Bremsspalt (12) um einen vorgegebenen Betrag wieder verkleinert wird.
