[origin: EP2063212A2] The weapon barrel (10) has a damping unit (20) for damping the bending vibrations (S). The kinetic energy of the bending vibrations is dissipated extensively between two sequential shots in the cadence by a friction process, which is released by the bending vibrations. The damping unit has a friction element (21) which stands in friction contact with a radial projection (24) of the weapon barrel. An independent claim is included for a damping unit for damping bending vibrations.
