[origin: WO2008034759A1] The invention describes a method for operating a printing press (100), in which method a repeat length/web tension function is determined and which method comprises at least the following steps: a) continuous printing of a printing motif (2) by way of at least one format cylinder (12) onto the printing-material web (1, 1'); b) loading of the printing-material web (1, 1') with a first web tension F<SUB>1</SUB>; c) measuring of the web tension F<SUB>i</SUB>, measuring of the actual repeat length L<SUB>i</SUB> and storing of the repeat length/web tension pair of values (L<SUB>i</SUB>; F<SUB>i</SUB>) d) changing of the web tension F<SUB>i</SUB> of the printing-material web (1, 1') and at least single repetition of step c); e) calculation of the repeat length/web tension function from the repeat length/web tension pairs of values (L<SUB>i</SUB>, F<SUB>i</SUB>).
