[origin: WO2008028750A1] The invention relates to an electric iron (1) having a housing (2), a liquid container (3) which is arranged in the former and an ironing base (4), wherein an ironing-base joint (6) is formed above the ironing base (4), above which ironing-base joint (6) a heat shield (5) is arranged at least in part which ends below the liquid container (3) in a transition region (7) which is formed by the heat shield (5) and the liquid container (3), and wherein the wall of the liquid container (3) is of lengthened configuration in the direction of the ironing-base joint (6). According to the invention, the wall of the liquid container (3) overlaps the transition region (7) without a gap here. The iron according to the invention avoids or reduces heat-shield joints which are customary in the prior art and thus makes it possible to produce inexpensive irons of high aesthetic class.
