Abstract (en)
[origin: EP2065732A2] The optical sensor (100), to determine the position of objects in an observation zone (90) has a number of infra red laser diodes (20,40) to give light beams (22,42) at overlapping sectors (92,94) of the observation zone. A control unit (70) sets the action of the lights. Reflected light (52) from an object passes to a detector (50), which gives a time-related detection signal. The evaluation unit (72), working with the control unit, assigns components of the detection signal with the light signals and stores comparative data for a specific object. The position of the object is determined by comparison of the separate signal components with the comparative data. A multi-part reflector (60) defines the observation zone.
