[origin: WO2008034822A1] The invention relates to a thermal exchanger (1, 1a) for gases, in particular for the exhaust gases of an engine, comprising a loop for circulating the gases for thermal exchange with a cooling liquid and an outer bypass duct (3) for circulating the gases without any substantial cooling. According to the invention, the cross section of at least one end (10, 10a) of the bypass duct (3) decreases progressively in at least one radial direction following a Y or Z axis and along an axial axis X, which optimises the bulk volume of the exchanger (1, 1a).
