[origin: WO2008031670A1] The invention relates to a pressure sensor for sensing side impacts and a method for configuring a surface of a protective material for a pressure sensor. In a protective material at least one integrated circuitry in fully surrounded and the protective material has a cavity, at least one pressure sensor element being mounted therein, wherein the surface of the protective material is configured in a way, such that a pressure inlet channel in created by the surface cooperating with at least one housing component. The pressure inlet channel provides for a lateral access to the at least one pressure sensor element.
