[origin: WO2008034646A1] The invention relates to a method (1) for recognizing a face (101; 181), comprising recognizing three-dimensional face information of a face (100; 181) by means a 3D recognition unit (182) in the form of a face information data set, wherein the detected face information encompasses location information of surface contours of the face (100; 182). Normalizing the detected face information, wherein a position normalization step and an orientation normalization step are performed. And comparing a feature data set derived from the normalized detected face information to at least one previously known feature data set of a previously known face. The face (100; 181) is recognized as the previously known face if one or more predefined comparison criteria are fulfilled, wherein the location information encompasses contour coordinates (169) and a frequency distribution (176, 177) is determined for evaluation regions (124-137; 170-175), indicating how many contour coordinates (168) are located within the individual evaluation regions (124-137; 170-175), and the feature data set is derived from the determined frequency. The invention further relates to a device (108) for face recognition and to a face recognition module (200).
