[origin: WO2008044982A1] A shelf system comprising brackets for (2) supporting shelves (3) and the like, each individual bracket (2) being adapted to be fastened to a preferably vertical rail (1), wherein each bracket (2) has a portion that engages with the rail (1) when mounted, which portion supports a gripping means (4), which is recessed in the bracket in a portion facing the rail and which, in its gripping position, closes around part of the cross-section of the rail (1), which cross-section extends along a substantial part of the length of the rail (1). The gripped portion of the rail has a contact surface (1.3) for a gripping portion (4.1) of the gripping means (4), a tightening means (5) for tightening a gripping surface of the gripping means (4) against said contact surface (1.3), said tightening means (5) applying between the bracket (2) and the gripping means (4) a force that is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the rail (1).
