[origin: US2010112921A1] A sharpening device (1) with a guiding slot (6) for knife blade to be sharpened and main sharpening rods (10a, 10b) arranged on both sides of the guiding slot (6) that cross each other at a crossing point (11) in the area of the guiding slot (6) and that execute pivoting movements (14a, 14b) against an elastic spring-activated resetting force when a knife blade abuts against them, is additionally equipped with pre-sharpening elements (7a, 7b) in at least one longitudinal segment of the guiding slot (6). During its course along the guiding slot, a knife blade to be sharpened abuts against the fixed pre-sharpening elements (7a, 7b) and against the movable main sharpening rods (10a, 10b) whereby the sharpening effect of the sharpening device (1) on the knife blade is increased.
