[origin: WO2008060760A2] A system for improved satellite broadband communication is disclosed in one embodiment. The system uses spot beams that carry a high-bandwidth signal and generally on a single carrier. The communication between gateways and subscriber terminals is bi-directional. Both upstream and downstream improvements allow for the high bandwidth. Domains can be defined and can be mapped to physical sub-channels. Other improvements in the satellite modem provide for control of the domains and sub-channels.
