Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2008046475A2] The invention relates to a lubrication system for an internal combustion engine comprising an exhaust gas turbocharger. An oil pump comprising an inlet is used to suck oil from an oil trough (12) arranged beneath a crankcase (10) of the internal combustion engine, and to supply the oil to areas of the internal combustion engine and parts of the exhaust gas turbocharger (28) to be supplied with oil. Oil is supplied to the exhaust gas turbocharger from the oil pump via supply channels formed in the crankcase and originating in the lower side of the crankcase, which borders the inner space of the oil trough, and oil is sucked out of the exhaust gas turbocharger via a return line (34, 38, 44). The oil pump is arranged inside the region defined by the oil trough and the lower side of the crankcase, and the return line (34, 38, 44) is at least partially formed by a channel (38) created in the crankcase (10). The outlet of said channel (42) is located in the region of the crankcase, which is covered by the oil trough (12).
