Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2008043406A1] The invention relates to a lock box system (10) and a method for operating such a lock box system. A central reading device (40) of the system is provided for reading the information from RFID transponders (50) placed on the objects (51) to be deposited in the lock box system. This information at least contains data with respect to the dimensions of the respective object (51). A data processing unit (31) determines the boxes of the lock box system which are empty and in which the objects would fit on account of their size, and transmits the box identification to a control unit. The control unit generates control signals and transmits them to the closing means (21) of the respective boxes for opening the doors (22) of said boxes. The boxes open and a user of the lock box system can deposit the objects. The invention is particularly suitable for electronic parcel compartment systems for depositing and retrieving mail parcels.
