The switchgear (1) has two switch contact pairs (2, 3) for breaking a flow path (4) of current. A discharge packet (5) is arranged in a region of the switch contact pairs for discharging electric arcs (6) that are developed while opening the flow path, where opening paths (7) of the switch contact pairs run parallel or anti-parallel to each other. The switch contact pairs are switched in series such that same current (i) flows in the electric arcs in same direction. The discharge packet is arranged in a region between the two opening paths.

Ein Schaltgerät (1), insbesondere ein Leistungsschaltgerät, weist zwei in Reihe geschaltete Schaltkontaktpaare (2, 3) zur Unterbrechung einer Strombahn (4) und zumindest ein im Bereich der Schaltkontaktpaare (2, 3) angeordnetes Löschpaket (5) zum Löschen der beim Öffnen der Strombahn (4) entstehenden Lichtbögen (6) auf. Die Schaltkontaktpaare (2, 3) sind derart angeordnet, dass ihre Öffnungsbahnen (7) im Wesentlichen parallel oder antiparallel zueinander verlaufen. Erfindungsgemäß sind die Schaltkontaktpaare (2, 3) derart in Reihe geschaltet, dass der in den beiden Lichtbögen (6) fließende selbe Strom (i) räumlich in die gleiche Richtung fließt. Das Löschpaket (5) ist im Bereich zwischen den Öffnungsbahnen (7) angeordnet.
