[origin: WO2008054262A1] The invention relates to a filter cleaning device for a particulate filter mounted in an exhaust conduit of a diesel engine, wherein the filter is arranged to collect particulate matter from exhaust flowing from an upstream end to a downstream end of the filter The filter cleaning device is mounted adjacent the filter and comprises a source of vacuum positioned to draw a cleaning fluid and waste material through the filter; said filter cleaning device comprising a vacuum device for applying a source of vacuum to an enclosed space at the upstream end of the filter; and a collector positioned to receive waste material released from the filter during a filter cleaning event.
