[origin: WO2008046546A1] The invention relates to a bath lifter with a base unit (1) which can be placed in a bath tub, with a seat unit (2) which is mounted thereon in such a way as to be able to be lifted and lowered via a support device with intersecting scissor branches (11, 12), and with a lifting device that comprises a drive unit with a rotatably driven drive body around which at least one traction means (6) is guided and which is coupled to the scissor branches (11, 12) in such a way that a lifting force can be exerted thereon in order to bring the scissor branches (11, 12) upright and lift the seat unit (2) counter to the force of gravity. The measures contributing to operating safety are that the at least one traction means (6) is designed as a flat band, as a toothed belt or as a segmented traction means, and that the drive unit, for spreading open the intersecting scissor branches (11, 12), has a spreader unit (3) which is mounted adjustably between them and which is drawn by the traction means (6) towards the scissor axis (20) in order to lift the seat unit (2).
