Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2008046446A1] The catching device (10) is part of a climbing protection system for preventing a user from falling from a ladder, a platform or the like. The catching device (10) is able to move along a guide rail (12) and comprises a rotatably mounted pawl (18) which, in the event of a fall, runs against arrestors (16) in the guide rail (12). A connecting element (40) is attached to the pawl (18) and the user can be secured to the connecting element (40) by means of a safety belt. The connecting element (40) is articulated on the pawl (18). The articulation of the connecting element (40) on the pawl (18) can be such that the connecting element (40) is coupled releasably and in a rotationally fixed manner to the pawl (18) and the coupling (50, 52) is released when a predetermined force is applied to the connecting element (40). The connecting element can be designed as a damping element (40) which deforms when exposed to a predetermined force.
