[origin: CN101518913A] The invention relates to a method for cutting string-shaped food, wherein the string shaped item (7) of food is fed to the cutting device by means of the feed device, and the cutting device cuts the string shaped item (7) into pieces, strips or blocks. The string shaped item (7) is fixed by a vaccum gripper(1) which is fed along with the item (7) during feed movement. The method involves producinga negative pressure in an interior of a contact element (29) of a vacuum gripper, where the pressure acts on a fixing region (42,43) of a surface of the string shaped item (7) in an internal suctionregion(36,37) of the contact element(29). The invention proposed that the suction region is divided into at least two separated suction sub-regions(36,37) which are adjacent to each other, the interior cavity of the contact element(29) is accordingly divided into two interior cavities(41,41'), and the fixing regions (42,43) are separated by a contact line(K), in order to prevent faults caused by vaccum loss and prevent fixing force loss.
