[origin: WO2008067859A1] The invention relates to a tobacco shredder with a heatable pressure chamber (3) which has a tobacco-material inlet (5) on the low-pressure side, a pressure-relief gap outlet on the pressure side, and a shaft-mounted conveyor worm (1) for conveying the tobacco material from the inlet to the outlet, wherein the conveyor-worm shaft (19) is mounted on the inlet side, and wherein the shaft (19) extends further behind the outlet and is also mounted there by means of an abutment (17). The invention also relates to a method for shredding tobacco in which the tobacco material is introduced on the low-pressure side of a pressure chamber and is relieved of pressure, and discharged, at a gap outlet on the pressure side of the chamber, wherein the tobacco material is conveyed from the inlet to the outlet by means of a conveyor worm which is shaft-mounted at two end portions, and wherein the conveyor worm is operated over a speed range of up to 600 min<SUP>-1</SUP>.
