Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2008077505A1] The invention relates to an input device for operating devices of a dental workplace. The input device comprises a keyboard unit (1) having a flat control panel (2), whereon or wherein control regions (3, 3') are defined. The input device further comprises a sensor unit (4) with a radiation and/or ultrasound source (6) for emitting radiation or ultrasound in a plane (E) parallel to the surface of the control panel (2), and a sensor (7) which can be used to receive radiation or ultrasound, which originates from the radiation and/or ultrasound source and has been reflected from a control element, for example a finger (5). The keyboard unit (1) is particularly easy to clean, particularly sterilize. The keyboard unit (1) can be easily and quickly connected in a fixed and stationary manner to the sensor unit (4) via a connecting device (8). According to one embodiment, the keyboard unit (1) is translucent, and the controls regions (3, 3') are integrally formed in the control panel. A cold light source (9) is provided in or on the sensor unit (4), allowing for the control regions to be illuminated.
