[origin: WO2008074168A1] The invention relates to an elevator car (10) which is characterised in that the car roof (9) is formed on a base surface of at least 0.6m x 0.5m and is flexible such that it either collapses, folds down or is lowered when loaded with 150N or more. The claimed elevator car invariably guarantees the required free space F of 0.6m x 0.5m + 0.8m above the elevator car as a refuge area against the danger of crushing, even if the elevator car drives up very close to the ceiling of the hoistway.
