Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2008055686A1] In banknote processing machines, banknotes are conveyed by a conveying system and pass through a sensor section. In some sensors, the passing banknotes touch the front side of the sensor housing, resulting in wear of the front sides, which can affect the conveying process of the banknotes. When the sensor fronts are worn, only individual front elements of the sensor component are replaced rather than entire sensor components, as used to be the case. One or more front elements which are removable and can thus be replaced with little effort are fastened to the sensor housing side facing the banknotes. Said front elements have no contact with the interior of the housing and the sensitive measuring elements located therein. The measuring elements remain encapsulated in a dust-tight manner in the housing of the sensor component when the front elements are removed from the housing for maintenance. Preferably, the front elements have a comb structure which makes it easier to convey the banknotes at the transition between the sensor components.
