Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2008074575A1] In the refining of crude lead, particular constituents such as arsenic, tin and antimony are removed either by selective oxidation by means of air or oxygen or by selective oxidation by means of a salt slag. In the selective oxidation by means of air or oxygen, the oxidant is blown by means of a lance into a bath of liquid lead. A disadvantage of the processes according to the prior art is that a considerable part of the oxidant blown in escapes unused. To improve the efficiency of a process for removing arsenic, tin and antimony from crude lead which operates using a gaseous oxidant, it is proposed according to the invention that the oxidant be introduced in the form of small gas bubbles into a bath of liquid crude lead. As a result of the large surface area of the gas bubbles introduced and the increased residence time, in particular when small gas bubbles are produced in the bath, the reaction is significantly accelerated compared to known processes.
