[origin: EP2107328A1] The evaporator has a set of plates (1) stacked parallel to one another in a vertical direction with openings (1a, 1b) that are aligned with one another for supply and return of fluid i.e. refrigerant. A heat-transferring area of the plates has a length (L) in a direction of refrigerant flow and a width (B). The ratio of the length to the width is not greater than 1.3. The refrigerant flows through flow passages (2) in a bank (4) comprising the flow passages of a type and another bank (5) comprising the flow passages following the former bank after a reversal of direction of the refrigerant. An independent claim is also included for a device for cooling a heat source of a motor vehicle.
