[origin: EP2110356A2] The apparatus has two processing arrangements for processing physical articles, and a pre-handling arrangement for pre-handling the articles. Exit transporting paths (A-1, A-2) transport the physical articles from a connecting system to one of the processing arrangements. Entry transporting paths (E-1-E-3) transport the physical articles from one of the pre-handling arrangements to the connecting system. A starting part of return transportation paths is provided downstream of the connecting system, and an end of the return transportation paths is provided upstream of the connecting system. An independent claim is also included for a method for processing physical articles.
