Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2447108A] The packaging bag comprises a base (Figure 1, 10), opposing side walls (Figure 1, 12) and opposing end walls (Figure 1, 14). The composition of the walls (Figure 1, 12, 14) and base (Figure 1, 10) typically comprises a laminate structure having a paper based material 20 which forms a core layer, a second layer of paper based material 18 forming the external face 16 of the bag, and a layer of compostable plastic material 22 such as polylactic acid (PLA) or cellophane to provide a lining for the inner walls of the bag. The respective layers are laminated together using a biodegradable and compostable adhesive at spaced locations. The bag may also comprise additional laminate layers wherein a core layer 20 is formed of paper based material, the inner layer 22 is of a compostable plastics material, layer 24 is of a paper based material and is laminated to a further sheet 26 of compostable plastic material forming the outer surface 16 of the bag. The bag may also comprise fewer layers with a 2 ply composition with an external face of a paper based material and an inner face of compostable plastic material. An internal cavity (Figure 1, 4) is provided into which the contents is placed and then enclosed by heat sealing the opening (Figure 1, 6). The outer surface 16 is adapted to receive ink thereon so as to provide the required information on the external face 16 of the bag.
