[origin: WO2008095324A1] The invention relates to a drive for an elevator car and to its counterweight. Said drive is a gearless traction drive comprising a stationary stator and an external, rotating drive cylinder (26) that is equipped with permanent magnets on the inside. Drive cables (41, 42) for the elevator car and the counterweight are guided in the cable grooves (8) on said drive cylinder (26). Said traction drive is suspended on a bridge (25) that is secured to the vertical guide rails (23,24) for the elevator car and the counterweight.
