[origin: WO2008092754A1] The present invention relates to a system and a method for handling cash-based logistical processes for cash withdrawal and deposit operations in cash machines (g<SUB>1</SUB>,g<SUB>2</SUB>, g<SUB>n</SUB>) such as cash deposit and withdrawal machines, kiosk systems, and cashier stations. The system comprises cash boxes (3) for receiving and/or removing money, transport means (2) for transporting the cash boxes to and from the cash machines (g<SUB>1</SUB>,g<SUB>2</SUB>, g<SUB>n</SUB>), and a cash center. The cash boxes (3) are provided with a storage unit (4) which stores the amount of the cash balance in the cash box (3) and the identification number of the cash box (3). By means of reading and writing devices, the data can be read out of the storage unit (4) at every stage of the logistical process.
