[origin: WO2008098584A1] The invention relates to a method of operating a parking facility for motor vehicles which comprises a stacked arrangement of fixed parking spaces each having a guide for a pallet which can be displaced along the guide, and also comprises a lift which is arranged alongside the fixed parking spaces and which likewise bears a guide for a pallet which can be displaced therein, in which method the pallet is displaced between the guide of a fixed parking space and the guide of the lift by stopping the lift alongside a fixed parking space in such a way that the guides of the fixed parking space and of the lift are aligned with one another, wherein the guide of the lift bears, at its end facing the fixed parking space, on a supporting surface connected to the fixed parking space. To make it possible in such a method to improve the alignment of the guide in the lift with the guide in the parking space, it is proposed that the guide of the lift, once it has been set down onto the supporting surface, is pivoted about a horizontal pivot axis on the parking space side that extends transversely to the displacement direction, which pivot axis is defined by the bearing point of the guide of the lift on the supporting surface, until the guide of the lift is horizontal. Also described is a parking facility which implements this method.
