[origin: EP1955722A1] The invention relates to a method for providing a composite film onto a substrate comprising the steps consisting of: i) coating onto a substrate disposed vertically a solution comprising a polycationic compound by spray coating, thus forming a layer A; ii) coating onto the layer A an aqueous solution of a mineral oxide precursor by spray coating, thus forming a layer B; and iii) repeating steps i) and ii) until the formed composite film has the desired thickness. It further relates to a substrate coated with a composite film of alternate layers A and layers B, wherein layer A comprises a polycationic compound and layer B comprises a mineral oxide.
