[origin: WO2008089842A1] With the present method for burning refuse (2) in a burner (1), wherein the refuse (2) is ignited on a grate (4) and burned, and the resulting combustion gases are discharged to a combustion chamber (5) via one or more flue gas flue (7) to a waste gas flue (8), a liquid is injected in the head region (5a) of the combustion chamber (5) of the burner (1). In this manner, the temperature of the flue gas can advantageously be adjusted in this region (5a) and maintained in a certain range. In particular, a rising flue gas temperature is lowered by means of evaporating a liquid, in that heat is accordingly withdrawn from the flue gas by evaporating the liquid.
