[origin: WO2008065244A1] This invention relates to a method and a light source for producing light using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) (9). In the method, at least a number of LEDs (9) are connected serially, and the current or voltage passing through the series-connected LEDs (9) is regulated with a regulating element (6). The number of series-connected LEDs (9) is chosen so that the total threshold voltage of the LEDs (9) is lower than or at most equal to the input voltage of the LEDs (9).
