Abstract (en)
The invention relates to a method for determining the need for an oil change due to oil dilution of the engine oil in an internal combustion engine, which engine is provided with an electronic control unit. The method involves performing the steps of determining a plurality of engine parameters indicative of soot formation; determining the occurrence of a late fuel injection; determining a fuel volume injected after a threshold value; adding the volume of fuel injected after the threshold value to a counter; and triggering an output signal when an accumulated volume of injected fuel exceeds a predetermined amount.
