[origin: WO2008119443A1] A spring assembly (10) comprises a main spring (16), a slider (30), a limit stop (31), and at least one auxiliary spring (18) which is connected in series to the main spring (16) and has a first end (18a) to which the limit stop (31) is attached, and which has a second end (18b) which faces away from the first end (18a) and with respect to which the slider (30) can be set. The position of the slider (30) can be adjusted such that, if during loading of the spring assembly (10) the auxiliary spring (18) exceeds a prespecified compression travel, the limit stop (31) abuts against the slider (30) and thereby prohibits further loading of the auxiliary spring (18). A spring strut for a motor vehicle has the spring assembly (10). In the case of an alternative spring assembly (50), the auxiliary spring (18) is arranged parallel to the main spring (16), and the first end (18a) is free and can be displaced in the direction of compression of the spring assembly (50), wherein the position of the slider (30) can be set in such a way that, if during loading of the spring assembly (50) the first end (18a) exceeds a prespecified compression travel, the limit stop (31) abuts against the slider (30) and thereby the auxiliary spring (18) is connected in parallel to the main spring.
