[origin: WO2008116604A1] The invention relates to a fuel cell, comprising a membrane/electrode unit made of an ion-conducting membrane with catalyst layers arranged on opposing sides of the membrane which serve as cathode and anode and, optionally, an anode-side and/or cathode-side gas diffusion layer, wherein the membrane/electrode unit has adjacent regions with differing diffusion transport for feeds and/or products. The invention further relates to a method for production of said fuel cells.
