Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2008116571A1] The invention relates to a brake cylinder for pneumatically actuated vehicle brakes, especially for utility vehicles, comprising a spring-loaded brake section for carrying out parking braking processes by means of a cylinder spring (109), and an operating brake section for carrying out operating braking processes actuated by compressed air, the spring-loaded brake section and the operating brake section being combined to form a structural unit in a housing (101). The housing (101) is divided into two chambers (106, 107) by a piston (104), one of said chambers (106) being used as a pressure chamber for actuating the operating brake section, and the cylinder spring (109) of the spring-loaded brake section being arranged in the other chamber (107) on the opposite side of the piston (104). The cylinder spring (10) acts on another spring-loaded piston (110) in the chamber (107), which can be blocked in relation to the first piston (104) by means of a pneumatically actuated locking mechanism (116), can be released from said first piston by the releasing action of the blocking mechanism, and is connected to a piston rod (112) for actuating the vehicle brake, either directly or by means of other elements. Following the release of the blocking mechanism, the cylinder spring (109) acts between the two pistons (104, 110) and moves same in relation to each other during a parking braking process. Said invention is characterised in that the pneumatically actuatable blocking mechanism is embodied such that it only acts in the expansion direction of the spring.
