[origin: WO2008124953A1] A wheelchair having a center wheel drive comprises a chassis (11), at least one front wheel (16), two center wheels (17), and at least one rear wheel (19). Each center wheel (17), including the drive motor (21) thereof, is mounted on a support (23), which is attached to the chassis (11) pivotally about the axis (25) by means of a spring hinge element (27). The support (23) is thus pivoted from the rest position against the spring force of the spring hinge element (27). The support (23) is connected to the arm (31) supporting the rear wheel (19) via a further spring hinge element (33). When an obstacle (35) is traversed, energy is first stored in the spring hinge elements (27, 33). Said energy is then released in order to raise the rear of the chassis (11) in unison with the motor drive.
