[origin: EP2138304A1] The method involves illuminating printing plates by a plate illumination device (33) using a template (37) with a printing image, where the template is electronically provided by a processor (34) of a pre-press. The illumination of the printing plates is controlled by the illumination device based on data provided by a controller (39) of a production planning system. The illumination device, the processor, the controller, a storage device (51) and a control panel (42) pertaining to a printing machine are connected to a communication system (41). An independent claim is also included for a device for producing a printing plate, which is ready to use in a printing machine.
