The device (11) has a supporter (12) i.e. printed circuit board, for supporting light units i.e. LEDs, e.g. surface-mounted device-LEDs. The light units are arranged in two rows on the supporter. A cover (15) is designed as a thick foil and provided over one of the rows. The cover is provided with a light permeable symbol-area (16) over the light units, where separation units are provided between the light units of the row against over radiation of the light units to the area provided over an adjacent light unit. Another cover designed as a diffuser foil is provided over the other row. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a hob with a display device (2) a method for operating a display device.

Eine Anzeigevorrichtung für ein Kochfeld weist einen Träger für eine Vielzahl von Leuchtmitteln auf, wobei der Träger langgestreckt ist und die Leuchtmittel in zwei Reihen nebeneinander auf dem Träger verlaufend angeordnet sind. Über zumindest einer ersten Reihe ist eine Abdeckung vorgesehen mit lichtdurchlässigen Bereichen in Symbol-Form über den Leuchtmitteln. Zwischen den Leuchtmitteln dieser ersten Reihe sind Abtrennungen vorgesehen gegen Überstrahlen von einem Leuchtmittel zu einem lichtdurchlässigen Bereich über einem benachbarten Leuchtmittel.
