[origin: EP2145988A2] The fractionator (1-2) has an elongate housing (2) including a lateral end at which a filler opening (3-2) is arranged. The housing has another lateral end at which an outlet (4-2) is arranged. A removal device (7) is provided at a lower side of the housing. A paddle screw is arranged in the housing and transports fiber flocks via the removal device. The paddle screw has a paddle including a pitch angle in the range of 60 to 85 degrees. Perforated strainers with different perforation sizes are arranged over the removal device. An independent claim is also included for a method for fractionating separation of shives and short fibers of a fiber flock.
