[origin: CA2679308A1] The invention relates to a method for removing the coating of a component , in particular a gas turbine component, namely for completely or partially removing a multi-layer wear protection coating from the surface of the compo nent. Said wear protection coating comprises at least one relatively hard ce ramic layer and at least one relatively soft metallic layer. According to th e invention, in order to remove the multi-layer wear protection coating, the component is positioned in a bath consisting of alkaline electrolytes. The coating of component positioned in the electrolytes is removed at a current density of between 1 A/dm2 and 20 A/dm2.
