Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2448927A] An apparatus (10, Figure 1) for expanding tubular elements 12, comprises: a tool body (16, Figure 1), an axially compressible expansion ring 34 mounted on the tool body, the outer surface of the expansion ring being the same outer diameter as that of the tool body, and means for axially compressing the expansion ring, such as a piston (28, figure 3 and 4), so that the outer surface is expanded beyond the outer diameter of the tool body. In use the apparatus is positioned at a predetermined position within a tubular element 12 and axial compression of the expansion ring causes the outer surface to expand against the inner wall of the tubular element causing permanent expansion and deformation 40.
